There are numerous oil and gas shows across 11 the 17 wells drilled in this area, within Upper Cretaceous and Cambrian formations. The Kurnub (Lower Cretaceous) and Salib (lower Cambrian) Formations were identified as the main reservoir targets. The Ghareb Formation (Maastrichtian) is considered to be the main contributing source rock for the asphalt and oil seeps found in the Dead Sea contract area. Potential source may also exist within the Ma’in (Triassic) and Huni (Jurassic) Formations. Regional and local sealing formations or intraformational shales, tight carbonates and evaporates are present.
